Abstract
Special problems of children were studied on 3, 928 children who were living in different areas(Urban, forest and mountainous areas) and different socioe ¢¥conomic states in Korea and following results were--
1. Number- of children . with special problems were 330 cases and the incidence was 8. 4% of all cases.
2. Incidence of crippled children, children with congenital anomalies and children with marked health problems were 2. 5% of all cases. Of these, children with congenital anomalies and poliomyelitis were 0.4% of each, cerebral palsy was 0.3% and hearing and speech disturbance were 0.2% of each of all cases.
Deformities of hands and extremities were most frequently observed in children with -congenital anomalies.
Idcidence of children with mental deficiency and difficulty in school work were 6. 8% of all study cases and most frequently found in children of mountainous and farm areas which were consist of 9.7 and 17.8% respectively in contrast to urban area 1 3.2%).
4. Incidence of children with personality and be havior disturbances was 4.3% o all study cases. Of these, destructive and defiant children were most frequently observedKl. 9% of all cases) and introspective and incompetent children were next in frequency(l. 4% of all cases)
Children with chieving habit were also noted were consit of 0.3% of all cases.
5. Incidence of children with multiple problems .were 3.2% of all cases. Of these, children with tripple problezns(Physical, mental and behavior disturbances) were ranged to 0.4% of all study cases,
6. Incidence of school children with reading difficulty was 4.4% of all students. In spite of low incidence of reading difficulty in children in Seoul area(O. 2--1.3%, children of mountainous and farm areas have high incidence of reading difficulties and were 8.4% and I3.2% respectively.
Furthermore, 5e-¢¥6 year class children with reading difficulty was not infrequent and was ranged of all children with reading difficulty.
7. There was a number ofcauses which were related to¢¥ children with such special problems If they were classified to large categories, causes related to thier parent wece most frequent (53. 0%) and next in order of frequency were causes related with poverty(30. 9%), physical defects(29. 0%) and complex states with inferiority complex, changing schools and effortless situations(4. 2%)
